Park Central Celebrates Grand Opening of New Tru-Home2 Suites by Hilton Hotels

New hotels are first additions to midtown in decades as a new lodging option for business and leisure travelers visiting midtown Phoenix and the PHOENIX MEDICAL QUARTER

The first new hotels in midtown Phoenix in decades have opened as the next phase in the evolution of Park Central.

The dual-branded Tru/Home2 Suites by Hilton celebrated their grand opening on November 12th. Located in the PHOENIX MEDICAL QUARTER, the property is a unique new addition to Midtown Phoenix lodging offerings and expands Hilton’s growing footprint of multi-brand properties.

The dual-brand concept provides larger and enhanced communal areas and amenities compared to a standalone property, benefiting both business and leisure travelers. The hotel has a mix of unique offerings, each catering to the needs of their respective guests. The property also has a variety of shared amenities, including complimentary full breakfast buffet, Spin2Cycle fitness, laundry center, rooftop swimming pool, outdoor firepit and grills, pool table, and games in the lobby. Additionally, the hotel offers flexible meeting space.

The five-story property, developed by Plaza Companies, Holualoa Companies and Fayth Hospitality Group, is located at 3150 North Central Avenue and boasts 207 rooms, with 104 Tru rooms and 103 Home2 Suites. Conveniently situated at Park Central, the hotel offers guests easy access to Creighton University Health Sciences Campus – Phoenix, St. Joseph’s Hospital, Barrow’s Neurological Institute, Grand Canyon University and Downtown Phoenix.

“We are excited to welcome these two new hotels and this exceptional building to the latest evolution of Park Central,” said Sharon Harper, Chairman and CEO of Plaza Companies, one of the co-developers of the hotels and Park Central. “This property has truly become a mixed-use hub in the center of the city with an emphasis on healthcare, education and public art, and the hotels are a perfect fit for the community’s needs.”

As part of the opening of the new hotels, Grand Canyon University, the City of Phoenix, the developers of Park Central, Plaza Companies, Holualoa Companies, and hotel developer and operator Fayth Hospitality are joining together to initiate the Park Central Hospitality Training program.  This initiative will equip aspiring hospitality professionals with essential skills, including technology, guest service, marketing, community ambassadorship, and collaboration with local partners. The work experience for the Hospitality Training Program will occur at the dual-branded hotels.

Additionally, Layton Construction (the project’s general contractor), the City of Phoenix, and South Mountain Community College created a training program utilizing their Construction Trades Curriculum. Those going through the program had 16 weeks of classroom instruction that was complemented with hands-on experience at the Park Central Hotels jobsite.

“We’re thrilled about the opening of the new hotels, which are a fantastic example of how public-private partnerships can truly make a difference in our community. This project will enhance local opportunities, benefiting everyone involved,” said Councilwoman Laura Pastor.

The new hotels at Park Central have an eye-catching surprise for visitors — artwork reflecting Arizona’s natural landscape and the bioscience community at the PHOENIX MEDICAL QUARTER.  The artwork is part of an overall focus at Park Central on making art and culture an important part of the property’s revitalization. The developers of the new hotels teamed with artstudio 1.0.1, a local arts consulting firm, to select pieces from local artists to complement the overall art program inside the building.

The Park Central hotels will support individuals traveling to the PHOENIX MEDICAL QUARTER for treatment and services at Barrow Neurological Institute, Dignity Health St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center, as well as a place for family and friends of Creighton University Health Sciences Campus students and faculty.

“This marks a significant milestone for Park Central and the surrounding community. These hotels not only provide essential accommodations for visitors but also contribute to the local economy by creating jobs and fostering a vibrant atmosphere that supports businesses in the area. We’re committed to ensuring that Park Central serves as a thriving community destination for years to come,” said Stan Shafer, Chief Operating Officer for Holualoa Companies.

“We’re thrilled to open Tru/Home2 Suites by Hilton Phoenix Midtown and offer business and leisure travelers visiting Phoenix, Arizona with an innovative and value-driven lodging experience,” said Greg Fay, Fayth Hospitality Group. “Blending these two category-leading brands and their unique signature identities under one roof further propels our commitment to providing quality lodging options to meet a wide variety of styles, travel needs and desired price points.”

Plaza Companies and Tucson’s Holualoa Companies have teamed up to redevelop Park Central, once the city’s first large-scale shopping mall, into a vibrant nearly 500,000-square-foot bustling community destination ideal for playing, working, congregating, and celebrating the arts. Creighton’s Health Sciences Campus, opened in 2021, is a key part of the project’s revitalization and includes a curated collection of artwork throughout the facility.
